Man, Happy Friday. I want to do this podcast live, so if this hands shaking a little bit, sorry. But no, I wanted to talk about personality types. Y’all know I started opening a restaurant and we have a construction company, that thing’s kicking off and that thing’s doing great, then I also own a business consulting company, and then I just opened up a restaurant and we’re at day five. In this one I am in a partnership with some people and I want to talk about personalities because it’s a big difference in types of personalities that people have. People operate things differently, so, if you’re an employer or something like that or if you’re a family member we deal with personalities a lot, and in that personality there’s people that are easy to deal with, there’s people that are understanding and there are people that can see through the b.s. There’s people that can see when people are actually trying, and then there’s guys and there’s people that just don’t care. It doesn’t matter how hard you push, it doesn't matter how hard you go, it doesn’t matter what’s going on in your personal life, all they are consumed with is them, and when it’s consumed with them, that’s why people don’t want to work for you. So if you ever work for an employer for that was rude or disrespectful or something like that, then you don’t want to work for them, you’re not willing to go that extra mile to make things happen, you’re not willing to sacrifice your time, your efforts to work for them. And I see this in the restaurant business, and I knew it was, that there’s a high high turnover, and most of the time the turnover rates in the restaurant business, it’s not because of the customers, it’s because of management. Management and people that are in management, typically in restaurants, have an I don’t care attitude and they’re not as understanding to a point. I had a manager when I first started in the restaurant business years and years ago, I was right out of high school going into college and my manager, man, he was understanding when he was on shift everybody did more and was helping each other, it was a different atmosphere. Then we had this one guy and guy was just rude, very disrespectful, real arrogant and at that time I was, uh, waiter; a certified serving trainer. I wrote the test for new incoming servers, I was a line cook, I was an appetizer cook, I was a prep cook, top server and section lead in the tables that we waited and I was a wine host, I was a bartender. The only thing in that restaurant that I didn’t do was to-gos and one day he came in and he ran his mouth off and I was in the weeds, on the line I had food coming at me every which way and the shift before didn’t do their prep; the shift before didn’t do their thing and I lost it. Now, if it would’ve been the other manager come to me and they say the same thing, I wouldn’t’ve walked out, I wouldn’t’ve quit. Because how he operated, that manager came, he said what he said to me and indirectly blamed me for the previous shift, like it was my fault, and it’s not the time, I wasn’t having it so I quit. I took my apron off, threw it on the floor and I walked out. I was with that company for four years when I walked out. It’s the personality, it’s the way people say things, it’s the way people operate, it’s their body chemistry, it’s their body character. If you’ve ever been in that situation, you understand what I’m talking about. When you got people that, man, you just don’t want to work for, you just don’t want to be around. I’m dealing with that right now; I’m in literally in the middle of that stuff right now. One of the owners has a personality that’s kinda that way and I’m not that way; I don’t operate that way. I understand, you know, people oversleep sometimes. Not everybody has a car. I got one employee that rides his bicycle to work and he’s a sixty-five year old man with a steel rod in his leg; he makes it happen, he’s dedicated. So, things happen, things come up, none of us are perfect, but as they call, they’re like, man, thank you. Right? They call me, they’re like, Travis we’re running late, du du du du du, it’s okay, I got you. Cause here’s the caveat to this, me as the owner, our lives is not perfect, our lives are not a bed of roses and everything going right. I’ve been running ragged since six o’clock this morning, right, and I think it’s what..ten, ten-thirty probably going on ten? I’ve been running ragged going to the bank, going shopping, right. Our lives ain’t perfect, but when you can call those people and they’re like, man I’m sorry it’s after hours can you do this for me? Man, no problem, and they give back because you as an owner, you as a manager, you as an entrepreneur have a heart, and have compassion, and have all that for your staff and for your employees, they’re going to return it back to you when you need it. If you’re rude, and you’re brass, and you’re hard to deal with and hard to talk to, they absolutely will not go that extra mile, that’s why people in the restaurant business walk out. If you’re a business owner and you’re in that position, check on how you talk to your employees; check on how you talk to your staff. Are you compassionate to them? Are you understanding to what they have? Cause if you’re compassionate to your staff and you’re compassionate to your employees, they’ll go that extra mile and not expect anything in return. I have a young lady that works for me, she’s one of my secretaries for the construction company. I can’t pay her a whole lot, and I told her that when she came in, I said I can’t pay you a whole lot, but what I can do, when your babies get sick, cause she’s a single mom; she’s a single mom of two, I said but what I can do is give you liberty and give you freedom of working from home, watching my phone, watching the email, being there when I need you whether you’re with your kids or not and you don’t have to be in this office forty hours a week every week and she’s like huh, my time and my freedom and liberty like that? I’ll take the pay cut. It happens, it happens more than what people talk about, “everybody wants money, everybody wants money” and that’s not always important to everybody; money is not everything to everybody. She wanted the flexibility of when her babies get sick to shoot the owner a text saying hey I gotta go get my kids, they’re sick, they’re throwing up, whatever, cool, not a problem, go get them. A few hours later I’ll shoot her a text, hey how's the babies doing because I ultimately care, and I ultimately are concerned about my staff's well–being and my staff's kids well being, because if she’s a happy employee, she answers my phone nice, happy, cheerful. She answers those emails nice, happy, cheerful. She’s going to have my best interest at heart. Y’all see how this kind of goes around in a circle? If I’m rude to her and it’s like no you can’t go get your kids cause I need you here, I need you to do this, I need this, this, this, this, this, this, she ain’t going to stick around, and I gotta pay her big, big money to keep her, and then she still walks out on you. Cause I hear business owners complain a lot, well I pay them this, I pay them this and they didn’t–they left, all they want–they just wanted more money. Yeah, to deal with you, that’s what they wanted the money for. I recently had an employee leave cause he wanted more money, he had to have more money. I can’t afford him more money, he’s already top paying guy, I can’t afford it right now. So he leaves and go finds another job, and he’s like man I really don’t want to leave you though, can I still work here part-time for the same pay, because he believes in the vision, he believes in what we’re doing, he, he doesn’t want to leave me hanging, because like I said before, if you show your heart, and you show compassion and you show resilience to your people, they’ll give it back to you. That young man’s been with me, one of my longest time installers, when he left he was pretty upset; he was upset, he wasn’t his normal cheerful self, not mad, just felt like he let me down. So, he feels he let me down and wanted to stay, and he wanted to do both! I’m like, man, that’s–that’s just unsafe. If you’re an employer, check yourself, make sure you’re doing what you gotta do for your people, cause some of these people that you hire, they don’t have a daddy, they don’t have a mom, they’re not in your position, they don’t have money in the bank, half the time they don’t even have a bank account, been there, I’ve had guys that have not had a vehicle, don’t have money, don’t have a car, don’t have a bank account. You can’t expect your life, and what you have, and what you’re capable of doing to be the same thing for your employers. So, hope this helps, love y’all and we will talk to y’all next week. So as a business owner, I’m always trying to find a way to cut that bottom line, of what I have to make every month, every week, as cheap and as expected as possible. So, the program I have been using for many many years is simple simple simple guys. I use squareup.com, I will give you a link to use, you can log in, and you can use my hyperlink to get set up. I’m telling you guys, this is affordable. If you are a one man wrecking show and you’re just doing your own thing, it’s great because it’s free. It doesn’t cost you anything, it allows you to process credit cards and it’s all secure. When you level up and you get to that next level, and you start having employees, and you start building a team, you start becoming that CEO, which we all want to be, you can have it in here where you can build your team, they can either clock in on site, so if you have a flower shop, or you have a restaurant, or whatever the case is, man they can log in right there, they’re in, it tracks their hours, it tracks their tips, it does all that. If you’re like me and you have guys all over the country, and they’re all fully 100% remote, they have an app that they can download. They’re able to clock in, clock out, you know when they go on break, you know when they go on lunch because it’s all tracked that way. So when you come in to do your payroll, man, you input their time cards and you hit payroll, pay my team, that stuff comes right out of your account and you’re good to go. They even do one up for you, if you have W-2 employees, they will pay those and file all the legal paperwork with the government that you have to do, and you don’t have to do anything, it’s awesome. Let them set that up, let square head that up for you, now, that does come with a fee that’s charged every month, it even does direct deposit into your employees accounts. My installers, my construction guys, they get paid every week direct deposited into their account, small fee for that as well, but man I’m telling you right now, doing what I do in the construction field, it is a life changer. I don’t have to worry about uncle Sam coming after me, I don’t have to worry about filing those bills and those– ah man dude if y’all have employees y’all know what I’m talking about. Even 1099; if you have a 1099 employee, you have a sub, you’re paying somebody that way, you can do it same way through that [Square] You set them up through 1099 you can pay them via Cashapp, through direct deposit, they get their money however they want to get it, nothing changes on your role. It is the way to go, I’m telling you. I love it, I’ve used it for many many years. Go to squareup.com/i/podcastans. Guys I’m telling you, it’s the way to do it. It gives you a customer base, CRM, you can do items, you can build websites through it, you can host your website, it all integrates, it’s all done for you, you could even go as far as selling gift cards to your loyal clients. It tracks new customers, it builds appointments, there’s other apps, there’s other things that this thing does, and I’m not even scratching the surface for you. It’s geared for business owners with employees or without, it is all based on what you’re needing to do to run your business and for small fees every month, as your business grows, this will grow with you. And you don’t have to change platforms, you don’t have to change all that stuff, it grows with you for, obviously, low monthly fees a month, but man with all my businesses I got going on, this is what I use for every one of them. As each company develops and each company grows. This goes with me and I don’t have to change the CRM, I don’t have to change the process; as I grow, I can make the changes in this and grow with it. It’s the way to do it. Man I’m telling y’all right now, I wouldn’t choose any other ones. I’ve used other ones in the past and they’ve been problems. In our world, in the business world, you don’t need problems. Go to squareup.com/i/podcastans and it will change your life I promise you
